Original Text (August 2002)Programs and Organization
The Center will consist of a series of programs and initiatives designed to reflect its core mission and the priorities established by its members and by the Advisory Board. Corporations and institutions are invited to become contributing members on the basis of their objectives and level of involvement. Our senior staff will be responsible for planning and executing world-class programs in support of these objectivesSpecifically, the Center's Associate Directors will identify key players in the top 100 organizations in the Central New Jersey area, and set up meetings with strategic individuals to discuss participation in the Center's Founding Conference. Preceding this Conference will be a series of shorter sessions designed to identify the key themes and initiatives of most interest to participants.
During this period the staff will establish a working Web site for Center members, with areas for position papers, a calendar of Center events, and profiles of the staff and members of the Advisory Board. This site will also document all research, analysis, and public documentation created by the staff during the creation of the Center.
While some initial topics are outlined here, key elements of the programs and events sponsored by the Center for Business Excellence are evolved in response to changes in the business climate. While it is essential that broad goals be clearly defined and communicated, the Center's intention is to be fully responsive to the trends, issues, and interests of greatest importance to its members. Consequently members are invited to view the Center as a framework for concerted action to improve both the circumstances and the outcomes for the larger business community, and not as a single-focus solution.
As a membership organization, the Center can offer attendance at speeches and special events, networking opportunities, newsletter and online advertising opportunities, research studies and background papers, and a high-profile platform for key corporate initiatives such as promoting better codes of ethics and measures of business integrity, rethinking investor-relations programs, and so on.
Here are some timely seminar/presentation topics for CEOs and senior executives:
- Restoring Investor Confidence
- Revitalizing New Jersey's Economic Leadership
- Global Opportunities and Challenges for Midsize Companies
- The New Agenda: Visibility, Transparency, and Value
The Center has recently opened discussions with Rutgers' Organizational Psychology Program with a view to offering audits of corporate boards of directors, to assess their effectiveness in terms of group dynamics and other characteristics. This is an example of the kinds of services and instruments which the Center can offer, in partnership with other organizations, to foster excellence within corporations.
